Goodman. I 2023 kom debutalbumet Still Not Lost, som sikret ham en ny Spellemann-nominasjon.
Have you ever experienced the immense victory of getting the trash out before nine o’clock? Felt on top of the world because you actually remembered it was your turn to pick up the kids from school? Felt like a total boss showing up with a half-eaten box of chocolates from Nille as an anniversary gift? This is the spirit behind Ole Kirkeng’s musical universe, where everyday triumphs, self-deprecating humor, and life’s minor defeats all get to shine side by side. With his second album, Cowboy Lie Detector Machine — released in January 2026 — Kirkeng takes a clear step forward as a songwriter and artist. The album is infused with humor, melancholy, and brutal honesty, traversing the realms of Americana, country-rock, indie, and folk. The result is a unique intersection of Oslo and Nashville, filtered through a distinct Nordic identity and Kirkeng’s own wry perspective on life. The album was recorded with his band at Rockbonden Studio—Amanda Bergman’s farm and analog studio, tucked deep within the Swedish forests.
With Nashville-based producer Dominic Billett (Phosphorescent, Andrew Combs, Erin Rae) at the helm—alongside Kirkeng himself and Bendik Brænne as co-producers—the songs were allowed to evolve through an organic, playful collaborative process.
There is ample room here for grooves, musical flourishes, and more contemplative moments alike.
Since the album’s release, Kirkeng and his band have been on an extensive tour, playing shows both in Norway and abroad, including a performance at the Øya Festival. Backed by a tightly-knit band and a sound that draws as much from the roots of country as it does from indie and rock, Kirkeng has further refined his own musical universe on stage. Kirkeng first made his mark with the 2021 EP Rocking Chair, which won a Spellemann Award in the country category. His path into the Americana genre included a stint as a touring member of Courtney Marie Andrews’ band.
Since then, he has shared the stage with artists such as Molly Tuttle, Bonny Light Horseman, Willi Carlisle, and S.G. Goodman. In 2023, he released his debut album, *Still Not Lost*, which earned him another Spellemann nomination.
With Cowboy Lie Detector Machine, Ole Kirkeng cements his position as one of the most distinctive songwriters within the Norwegian Americana scene. Through sharp observations, gentle humor, and a unique knack for finding the profound in the seemingly insignificant, he creates music that is both entertaining and capable of striking a chord deeper than one might have expected.
