Bodø native Joakim Rainer Petersen is one of our country’s most active young jazz musicians. Currently based in Berlin, Rainer has over the past few years performed at jazz clubs and festivals across Norway, Europe, and New York, showcasing himself as a fearless musician and composer with a wide range. As both a pianist and leader of his own trio, he has gained significant attention recently, especially for his debut album Light.Sentence, which has received numerous reviews and been described as "...some of the most exciting and timeless work ever created in this format in this country in a long time." (Nettavisen). The Joakim Rainer Trio was also named Norway’s Best Young Jazz Band at Moldejazz in 2022.

His collaborations include a long list of musicians and bands, from Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten’s Exit (KNARR), ASQ, Frode Haltli’s Avant Folk, Peter Evans, Ingrid Laubrock, Michael Attias, Tobias Delius, Axel Dörner, Heida Mobeck, Nick Dunston, Camila Nebbia, Signe Emmeluth, and Hans Hulbækmo.
